I chose to do something else and go outside of the box of my usual food posts. “Crowd Surf” is a ticket provider for concerts, and any other major events that may be coming to your town. “Crowd Surf” is an app that compares ticket prices and shared the lowest price with you. I thought that the name would be clever because obviously people crowd surf at concerts but also because people also will ‘surf’ the web for the most affordable tickets. We are the place where you can find affordable fun.
The task of coming up with a logo was a lot harder than I actually thought. I spent some time sketching up what I thought may work. So one point I came up with some waves and integrating them into a crowd, then I thought about a speaker then it clicked with me, and I knew that my logo for “Crowd Surf” needed to be a surf board. At first I had the idea of stuffing the words into the board making them “crowded”. Putting the words so close together would represent the crowd. After playing around with this idea I realized and stumbled upon the idea of keeping the words together but putting them in front of the surf board instead of stuffed inside. I thought it looked cleaner and not so “childish” inside of the board with bold print. I wanted something that would look a little sleeker on a shirt or on a business card. Something that would be more appealing to people old enough to go to concerts. The picture in front of the deep dark blue waves makes clear that the image behind the words is a surf board. The font I feel also needed to match the roundness and feel of the board. I felt like the board didn’t need to come together completely also, I feel like I didn’t want to give that image away too quickly.
Choosing the colors once I felt that I had finally the design together was also complicated. It’s easy to think surfing and the first color that comes to mind is blue. Which I didn’t want to just choose the easy way out. I also wanted to choose colors that would appeal to both men and woman of all ages that go to concerts. I chose at least 50 to 60 color combinations before choose the grey and blue that I did. These best go together because the background that I chose. I wanted something to pop but not blend in totally. The blue that I settled on complimented each other well with both the thought of water and the image in the background. At first I had a bright yellow simply because it was different but in this case different wasn’t always best.
I hope you enjoy my logo and look forward to any suggestions.

First of all, great name choice! It’s strong, catchy and could be recognizable without any tag lines. I really like the incorporation of the surfboard in your logo design and how you have tied it back to surfing the web and crowd surfing at shows. The colors and font complete the surf theme you are going for perfectly. The one thing that I would recommend would be to remove the background. While I like the idea of adding waves to the design, I think the stock photo background takes away from the logo feel. You could try adding waves at the bottom of your surfboard to tie in that element. Use Google images to get some inspiration! Really excited to see your final product!

Dae,
I really like the retro surfer vibe of your logo with the muted colors and the round outline of the font. Not sure if its a screen thing, but it looks more reddish grey than standard grey when I look at it, but again it gives a retro vibe. With the word surf over the board, it’s a good match, it’s simple but does evoke a surfboard with a stripe down the middle. I think you could still do something with food with this design, it would be cool for a Baja taco place in southern California. You could continue to play with the shape of the board and colors. Maybe look at 1950-70’s surf culture in the Pacific for research. Food aside, I actually like your logo for Crowd Surf better than their little Cs. I get that it’s meant to evoke a VIP pass, but I don’t think concert when I look at it. However, with yours, I think less concert and more beach too so it’s a hard one. Concert or food, I could see it on a shirt.

Wow Dae, Thank you for sharing this Great information about the Crowd Surf app. that “compares ticket prices and shared the lowest price with you for most affordable tickets for concerts and any other major event that maybe coming to my town”. I know your topic is related to food but I also can make the leap in concept that some of your events through crowd surf will probably include some seriously off the hook Great food! That might be my first critical suggestion to you is that maybe some more info could be added to your blog logo to fill in this blank and relate to the food or eating topic. Also, think that brightening your colors for the logo and picture background would help it stand out more. I think you met the four parts of criteria of Design Principles in Rubric pretty well. I like the Unity of Visual effects in your Logo. Looking at your logo is Fun and exciting and this makes it a strong design.
Cheers,
Barbara

Hi Dae,
This is a cool concept! When I think of crowd surfing, I don’t necessarily think of surfing, but the way that you arranged the logo I make the connection between the two of them, which shows a good display of intellectual unity. The color scheme makes both the words and the surf board image pop and the colors you chose feel really fresh and young, which is great for the type of project you created this for.
I have a few suggestions that might make your logo more impactful. My first suggestion is to separate the words slightly, moving surf down lower so it is easier to read both words. Currently, surf is covering up so much of crowd, that it makes it a bit hard initially to read the word. I think separating them will help increase the readability of the word.
My next suggestion is to either bring the surfboard together more or separate it more. Currently, the teeny sliver in the middle is a bit distracting, so I think either eliminating it by joining the surfboard together using the pen tool or by moving the sides further apart would make the logo look cleaner and more scalable.
I look forward to seeing the final logo!
Kind regards,
Jeannie
